FLORAL DESIGN

Weddings are a snapshot of who you are; a memory to cherish. From lush, wild ceremony installations to intricate tablescapes, decisions are continuously made until your wedding day is perfectly you. Flowers are a fundamental element to the wholeness of weddings, carefully chosen to echo the couple’s personality and bringing ideas to life—completing and complementing the mood of the wedding. Every couple should have who they are shine through their flowers.

There are 5 elements to how I approach my design process; letting the flowers speak, bloom selection, shape of the flowers and whole design, colour and movement.

Let the Flowers Speak: I love using the organic shapes of flowers to lead my designs. My inspiration comes from our diverse landscape here in the Fraser Valley--seeing trees on mountains curving their trunks to branch up to the sun, vines growing up old brick walls and wildflowers that spring up from the earth with texture and colour.

Bloom Selection: I select a variety of different shapes and sizes. Roses, ranunculus and peonies are round and are great focal flowers. While star-shaped blooms like clematis and hellebores, and accent flowers like yarrow create interest and texture to a design. I love working with seasonal flowers. If I am working on an outdoor event I love to blend my designs with the natural surroundings.

Shape: I prefer to work on a whim; creating and working with the movement of the flowers and letting them do what they want. With heavier flowers sinking down and lighter flowers swelling and dancing above.

Colour: I can be influenced by a single stem and taking each colour in that one stem to build upon. Gradients, hues, complementary colour schemes, shadows and highlights, contrast and foraging are all things I consider when designing. I also like to design my arrangements as day turns to night. Your ceremony flowers starting lighter and floral tablescape getting deeper and richer as the night goes on. It makes for a really beautiful transition from ceremony to reception.

Movement: I want to take you on a visual adventure; clusters, textures and lines all flowing together. Your eye follows the design from beginning to end.

Designing flowers for events and styled shoots are one of my favourite ways to channel my creative energy. These are areas in which I can have the freedom to create ideas that I envision. I also love collaborating with other creatives to bring into being all of our ideas into one stunning event. Working with people who share this passion is important to me; learning from each other inspires me to stretch my own ideas.
